Dosimeter Program
At TCU, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) oversees the personal monitoring program from occupational radiation exposures, ensuring compliance and safety for all personnel working with radiation. This comprehensive approach ensures that all personnel are properly monitored and protected while working in environments where radiation is present.
- Monitoring Devices: Personal dosimeters, supplied and processed through a commercial dosimeter service, record individual radiation exposure levels.
- Administration: EHS manages the entire personnel-monitoring program, maintaining detailed records of dosimetry reports for each account.
- Assignment: Dosimeters are assigned based on individuals’ potential exposure to penetrating radiation and regulatory guidelines.
- Limitations: It’s important to note that standard dosimeters are not effective for measuring exposure from isotopes such as H-3, C-14, P-33, and S-35.
- Quarterly Exchange: Dosimeters are typically exchanged on a quarterly basis to ensure accurate monitoring.
- Temporary Solutions: If an individual is awaiting a permanent dosimeter assignment, temporary dosimeters are available for interim use.
