Chemical Hygiene Plan

The TCU Integrated Laboratory Management Plan, applicable to all individuals participating in research or teaching conducted in a laboratory environment, complies with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Subpart K requirements for hazardous waste management in academic laboratories and studios and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Chemical Hygiene Plan standards. This Plan provides guidance on working safely with chemicals in laboratories, outlining roles and responsibilities for key personnel, policies and procedures applicable to all students and employees, and regulations applicable to operations within a campus laboratory.

Training
All employees and students participating in research or teaching conducted in a laboratory environment must complete training in accordance with the Integrated Laboratory Management Plan. Assignments of the modules below are overseen by the Hazardous Material Safety Manager. For further training information, contact safety@tcu.edu

Laboratory Safety in Research and Education - UNV-8.2
This course teaches individuals how to identify common physical and chemical hazards and related safe work practices as recommended by OSHA. The use of personal protective equipment and standard emergency response procedures for laboratory work is also addressed.

Laboratory Chemical Waste Management (RCRA) - UNV-16.2
This course is designed to provide an overview of the Resource Conservation Act and how it applies to laboratory waste in the education and research setting. Individuals will be able to identify different types of waste as defined by RCRA and their characteristics, and the accumulation, storage, and recordkeeping requirements imposed by RCRA.
