Fire Safety

Main Content

Fire safety is a critical aspect of maintaining a secure and healthy living and learning environment on campus. Proper fire safety measures, including functioning alarms, accessible fire extinguishers, and clear evacuation routs, can save lives and prevent property damage.

In general, devices with open flames, (e.g., candles, etc.), are prohibited in most areas at TCU except when a permit has been obtained from the Fort Worth Fire Department. All faculty, staff, and students should recognize emergency situations as quickly as possible so preventative measures can be taken. Individuals should be familiar with the locations and operation of fire extinguishers near classrooms and offices.

Emergency Preparedness
Should a fire occur that is too large to extinguish, evacuate the building and call TCU Police at 817-257-7777. Avoid using elevators during evacuation, as the power may become disconnected. When evacuating, assist with warning others of the danger and pull any fire alarms seen on the way. Individuals should gather at their designated rally point and not return to their building until released to do so by public safety officials.

Fire Safety in Laboratories
TCU Facilities is responsible for managing the annual inspection of all fire extinguishers on campus. Additionally, they are responsible for replacing or supplying additional fire extinguishers in academic, research and support areas.

TCU Facilities Operations (Utilities - Electrical) assists in ensuring all buildings are in compliance with fire safety regulations, managing the fire alarms, smoke detectors, and fire sprinkler systems.

Fire Log
The Daily Crime and Fire Log includes information about fires that occur in residence halls or housing units owned or controlled by the University.
